Our areas of specialization are:
- Chemical and physical characterization of drinking water according to the Water Safety Plans approach EU Drinking Water Directive 2020/2184/EC and Italian legislation D. Lgs. 18/2023; mineral and thermal water according to D. Lgs. 22/2015, surface, and wastewater according to the EU Water Framework Directive 2020/60/EC ( D. Lgs. 152/2006) (e.g. anions, cations, metals, hydrocarbons, PCBs, PAHs pesticides, surfactants, mineral oils)
- Cyanotoxins: identification and quantification of microcystins (Dir. 2020/2184/ECD. Lgs. 18/2023) and other algal metabolites for public health protection
- Micro-pollutants in environmental matrices (e.g. pesticides and metabolites comprising glyphosate, PFAS, heavy metals, drugs, personal care products, VOCs and VOXs)
- Untargeted analysis for suspect and unknown compounds belonging to the class emerging contaminants: chemical fingerprint and evaluation of efficiency of abatement in the water chain or industrial processes
- Airborne particulate analysis: characterization of PM for air quality and occupational exposure
Some examples of analysis we carry out:
- Leaching tests on materials in compliance with BS EN 15863:2015 and analysis of emerging contaminants in seawater and metals from industrial items.
- Groundwater and surface water analysis using liquid and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry for the quantitative determination of active substances from various classes of pesticides.
- PFAS screening in leachates from wastewater treatment plants.
- Quantitative determination and screening of cyanotoxins through liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry in water intended for human consumption and in algae-based preparations.
- Quantitative determination of inorganic and organic compounds (C10–C40 hydrocarbons, PAHs, dioxins and furans, non-dioxin-like PCBs) in soils.
- Identification and quantification of tannins in treated tannery wastewater and evaluation of their chelating activity towards chromium.
- Monitoring of emerging contaminants through the development of new analytical protocols for chemical risk assessment in Venetian water bodies.
- Untargeted monitoring of organic micropollutants in wastewater, including assessment of their ecotoxicological impact and estrogenic potential.
